Effects of ozonation on water quality and pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) performance in a recirculating aquaculture system

The aim of this study was to examine the effects ozonation on water quality, and growth, blood biochemistry, antioxidant capacity survival pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) reared in a recirculation aquaculture system for 30 weeks. A group without ozone treatment used as control. application led significant reduction chemical oxygen demand, biological demand unsuspended solids concentration. results revealed that an method has positive influence intensive culture ensuring higher rate (77%) compared non-treated control (67.2%). Moreover, prevented fin damage large extent reduced prevalence Ichthyophthirius multifiliis infection. Furthermore, thiobarbituric acid reactive substance level enhanced superoxide dismutase activity fish gills. However, effect null plasma biochemical parameters. Overall, these findings suggest treatment, using adequate technological equipment destroy residual ozone, improves quality protects against any possible infection system.
